Pointers Comeback to Force Overtime in Conference Opener

MENOMINEE, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-1) completed a comeback to force overtime in the conference opener against UW-Stout (6-1, 1-1), falling 10-9.
 
After a long defensive battle from both sides, Stout netted the first two goals at 6:06 and 4:22 in the first quarter. Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored on a player-up opportunity off an assist from Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) to put the Pointers on the board at 1:56, to go into the second quarter 2-1.
 
Bahr kept the pace to net the first goal of the second quarter at 12:10, unassisted. Stout regained the lead at 5:39 on a player-up opportunity, to make it a 3-2 game going into halftime.
 
Stout scored three goals before Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) broke the Pointers' scoring pause at 6:21 in the third quarter, unassisted, to be withing three goals. Stout scored a late goal in the third quarter to take it 7-3 into the fourth quarter.
 
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) erupted into the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal at 14:18. Minutes later, Leising found Van Dyke for a goal at 12:38 to be within two goals. Van Dyke scored her third goal of the game at 11:08 in the fourth quarter to make it a 6-7 game. The Pointers notched two goals in 20 seconds, Leising off an assist from Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) and Van Dyke from Leising at 6:56 and 6:36, respectively, to take the lead, 8-7. Stout tied the game at 6:03, before Aliseah Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) netted a goal from Allen to regain the lead 9-8. Stout tied the game again at 2:34 to take the game into overtime.
 
Emily Greige was in goal, completing 15 saves in 63 minutes and 21 seconds of play.
 
The Pointers remain on the road and travel to Georgetown, Texas to take on Colorado College on Friday (Apr. 4). Opening draw is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
