FRANKLIN, Ind.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (1-6) picked up the first win of the season with a dominant offensive run against Franklin College (0-4), 22-6.
The Pointers started the dominant offensive run at 11:27 in the first quarter, where
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) netted an unassisted goal. Just moments later at 10:41,
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) found Keeping for her second goal of the game. Keeping found the back of the net, unassisted, at 6:34, just before
Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored off an assist from Van Dyke to increase the Pointers' lead to 4-0. Franklin scored at 5:12 and just seconds later,
Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) netted an unassisted goal to make the game 5-1. With under 2:30 to play in the first quarter, the Pointers scored three more from Van Dyke, Keeping off a
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) assist, and Leising unassisted to end the first quarter 8-3.
Van Dyke kept the Pointers' offensive start strong at 13:53 in the second quarter. On a player up opportunity, Keeping found Leising for a goal to make it 10-3. Bahr netted an unassisted goal at 12:33 off a ground ball pick up. At 10:51 in the second quarter,
Josie Voigt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) netted an unassisted goal to increase the lead to 12-3. Within a little over a minute, Keeping scored two, a shorthanded goal from Leising and even strength from Bahr. At 6:18
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) found Keeping pulling away from the Grizzlies, 15-3. With 4:57 remaining in the second quarter, Franklin scored an unassisted goal. To round out the first half,
Kaylee Slane (Portage, Mich./Central) scored her first collegiate goal, unassisted making it a 16-4 game going into halftime.
The Van Dyke, Keeping scoring and assist duo started the third quarter with a goal at 11:33. At 7:28, Franklin scored off a player up opportunity.
Aliseah Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) netted a goal from Van Dyke to make it a 18-5 game at 5:35. Leising found Bahr at 3:12 to increase the Pointers' lead. With 1:38 remaining in the third quarter, Leising scored a free-position goal to make it a 20-5 game going into the fourth quarter.
Allen found Leising at 8:34 in the fourth quarter to be up 21-5. Leising scored her second free-position goal at 5:48 to round out the Pointers' dominant offensive run.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, completing 4 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The UWSP women's lacrosse team remains on the road to take on Saint Mary's College tomorrow (Mar. 29). Opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
