Pointers End Season with Sweep at Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (19-8) closed the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-13) win at Rockford (6-18) on Friday night.
 
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) with 13 and 11 assists, respectively, were the only players in double figures in the match.
 
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) had a match-high eight kills. Nate Olson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added six kills, six digs and three aces.
 
Dresen had three kills as the teams played to a 12-all tie midway through the first set. Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) each had a kill in a 7-0 run as UWSP pulled away, 19-13. Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) closed out the opening set with a kill.
 
Cael Bertrandt (Big Bend, Wis./Mukwonago) had two kills in another 7-0 run in the second set as UWSP went ahead, 15-8. Baeckman had a block and a kill as the Pointers took a 2-0 lead.
 
Dresen and Olson had two kills each as UWSP jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the third. Rikhil Patidar (Waukesha, Wis./South) had three kills late and Amado Espinosa (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) served an ace to close out the sweep.
 
The Pointers finish one victory shy of the first 20-win season in program history. Dresen led the team with 244 kills, one of five Pointers with more than 100 kills on the season. Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) ended the year with 290 digs and entered the night seventh in the country at 3.16 digs per set.
