STEVENS POINT, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (0-6) fell to Illinois Wesleyan University (5-4), 9-6, in a snowy home battle.
The Pointers started off the game with two goals. At 12:02,
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) found the back of the net before
Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) found
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) to be up 2-0 at 7:42 in the first quarter. Illinois Wesleyan scored two goals to tie the game going into the second quarter.
Illinois Wesleyan added two more goals early in the second quarter to take the lead 4-2 to go into halftime.
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) started off the third quarter with back-to-back goals at 6:40 assisted by Van Dyke and 3:33 assisted by Bahr, to tie the game at 4-4. Illinois Wesleyan regained their lead with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter with two goals, to make it 6-4.
Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) scored off an assist from Keeping at 10:35 in the fourth quarter to be within one goal. Illinois Wesleyan kept their offensive charge going with two more goals at 9:57 and 8:36.
Aliseah Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) made it an 8-6 game at 4:03 off an assist from Bahr.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal completing 18 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The UWSP women's lacrosse team is back on the road on Friday (Mar. 28) to face Franklin College. Opening draw is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
