UWSP Baseball Falls Short in Scrap With Coe

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (3-6) held Coe (8-2) to four hits, but the Pointers fell short in the runs column, 4-2.
 
The Pointers only mustered four hits as well with Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln), Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) and Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) with one each.
 
The Kohawks broke the scoreless tie in the third inning on a leadoff single, a sac bunt and another single for a 1-0 lead.
 
A leadoff walk in the fourth followed by a double, a sac bunt and a sac fly put Coe in front, 3-0.
 
Huber legged out an infield single with one down in the bottom of the fourth. He stole second and scored on a double by Oliver to get UWSP on the board.
 
Coe hit a leadoff home run in the sixth to put the Pointers in a 4-2 hole.'
 
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was hit by a pitch to begin the seventh. Brown doubled to put two in scoring position. Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) hit a sac fly but the Pointers could do no further damage.
 
Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) had a strong outing with 6.0 innings pitched in the start. He struck out eight. Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) tossed a scoreless frame. Jeremiah Jahnke (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne) and Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) combine for another shutout frame. Isaiah Piscitello (Wausau, Wis./West) struck out the side in a scoreless ninth.
 
The Pointers wrap up play in Florida on Saturday (March 22) with a 9:30 a.m. ET game against St. Olaf.
