Oliver Homers, Pointers Break It Open Late in Florida Finale Win

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (4-6) rallied for a 6-2 win over St. Olaf (6-5) in the team's finale in Florida on Saturday morning.

Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) had two hits, including a go-ahead two-run home run. Colton Martell (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton), Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) added two hits each.

The Oles opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with one run on one hit and a UWSP error that led to the unearned run.

St. Olaf doubled its lead in the fifth on a walk and a single to put UWSP in a 2-0 hole.

Pinch hitter Andrew Chapman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) led off the sixth with a single. Martell singled to put two aboard. A double play nearly spoiled the Pointers' rally, but a wild pitch got UWSP on the board. Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) drew a walk bringing Oliver to the plate. He sent the second pitch of the at-bat over the fence in right to give UWSP a 3-2 lead.

Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) started the ninth with a single. Brown and Martell followed with consecutive singles plating the first run of the inning. Two batters later, Argersinger singled to push in another run and put runners on the corners. The Pointers executed a double steal and the lead grew to 6-2.

Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) went 5.0 innings in the start to earn the win. He struck out six. Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) fanned two in a perfect inning of work. Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) also worked a scoreless frame. Isaiah Piscitello (Wausau, Wis./West) notched his first save with two perfect innings and three strikeouts.

The Pointers return north to open league play at UW-River Falls. The four-game series begins on Saturday (March 29) at 1:00 p.m.
