NEENAH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team earned a pair of hard-fought battles in Neenah on Sunday. The Pointers got past Edgewood, 4-3, before taking care of Lawrence by a 5-2 final.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) got UWSP on the board against EC. She took her No. 1 singles match in a super-breaker, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 1-0 (4).
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) won both of her No. 2 singles matches, 6-4, 6-2 against Edgewood and 6-1, 6-0 versus Lawrence.
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) got a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles against EC.
Abigail Ashley (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) completed the win over the Eagles with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.
The Pointers won the doubles team point against Lawrence. Steier and
Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) at No. 2 and Ashley and
Morgan Milan (Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) at No. 3 both won by 6-3 finals.
Scharf, Kunze and Milan got singles wins against Lawrence. Scharf won at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (5), 7-5. Kunze took the No. 4 singles by a 6-4, 6-3 final. Milan earned a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
The Pointers take on Concordia (Wis.) and Olivet Nazarene in Neenah on March 30.
