ELMHURST, Ill.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (0-5) fell to Elmhurst University (5-2), 10-9, on Monday.
Elmhurst started the first quarter off with a goal but not before
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) and
Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) each netted an unassisted goal to take the lead early. Elmhurst scored at 9:14 to tie the game to 2-2.
Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored off an assist from Van Dyke at 8:29 to give the Pointers the lead again. Elmhurst scored two goals in the last six minutes in the first quarter to take the lead 4-3 into the second quarter.
Elmhurst scored three goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter to push their lead to 7-3. With 19 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Van Dyke found
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) cutting the deficit to three goals going into halftime.
The third quarter began as a defensive battle. Elmhurst scored two goals in the last seven minutes to push their lead to 9-4.
Aliseah Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) recorded her first collegiate goal off a player-up free-position shot at 2:30. With 26 seconds remaining in the third quarter,
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) found the back of the net off a free-position shot to make it 9-6.
Early in the fourth quarter,
Josie Voigt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) scored off a player-up free-position shot to be within two goals. Elmhurst scored at 7:26 to make it a 10-7 game. With 1:58 remaining in the game, Boersma scored off a player-up opportunity. Voigt scored off an assist from Van Dyke with 1:02 remaining in the game to be within one goal before the final buzzer.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal completing 13 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The UWSP women's lacrosse team is back home on Sunday (Mar. 23) against Illinois Wesleyan. Opening draw is set for 11:00 a.m.
