AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (2-3) won its second-straight at the RussMatt Invitational with a 6-1 win over MSOE (3-8) on Monday.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) hit a home run and drove in three of the six runs. He also scored twice.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central),
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Colton Martell (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) each recorded two hits.
Argersinger led off the second with a single and stole second. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sac fly by Oliver for a 1-0 lead.
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) drew a two-out walk in the third.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) doubled and Tomczak hustled home from first to double the advantage to 2-0.
Argersinger hit a double to start the fourth. Two batters later, Oliver reached on an error. Martell followed with a single to plate one run. After a passed ball moved Oliver to third,
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a sac fly and UWSP's lead was 4-0.
MSOE got an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to spoil UWSP's shutout bid.
Huber reached on a one-out single in the eighth inning. He moved to second on a passed ball. Oliver clubbed a two-run home run to complete the scoring on the day.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) earned his first win of the season with 7.2 innings in the start. He struck out 10.
Isaiah Piscitello (Wausau, Wis./West) tossed the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.
The Pointers face Hope in a pair of seven-inning games on Tuesday (March 18) beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
