Men’s Volleyball Wins Two at Viterbo Tri

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (18-6) won both matches at the Viterbo Tri on Saturday. The Pointers turned away Olivet Nazarene in four sets before winning 3-0 against host Viterbo.
 
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) tied for the match-high with 13 kills against ONU. Nate Olson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added 10. Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) posted double-figure digs in both matches with 18 and 10 on the day.
 
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) and Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) both had double-digit assists in both matches. Brogren led the Pointers with 19 and 18 while Jolin added 15 and 12.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 3, ONU 1 (25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12)
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) had an assist and a kill early as UWSP went up 5-1. Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Jetzer combined on a pair of blocks as UWSP regained the lead at 11-8. Olson had three kills late and Brogren served an ace as UWSP took the opening set.
 
Dresen and Olson had three kills each in the second set. Robertson served an ace to seal a 2-0 lead.
 
Jetzer had six kills in the third set, but the Pointers played from behind nearly the whole set as ONU took the third.
 
Cael Bertrandt (Big Bend, Wis./Mukwonago) had a pair of kills as the Pointers took a 8-3 advantage to start the fourth. Jetzer and Olson had two kills each as the Pointers close the fourth and the match with a 7-1 run.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 3, Viterbo 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-12)
Six different Pointers combined for 15 kills in the first set as UWSP used a 5-0 run mid-set to take the first.
 
Dresen, Jetzer and Olson combined for seven kills, but the V-Hawks stayed close throughout the second set. The Pointers prevailed with the set after scoring the final two points on Viterbo errors.
 
Eight different Pointers recorded a kill in the third as the Pointers hit .500 in the set to secure the sweep.
 
The Pointers will host Roosevelt on March 26 in the home finale. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
