STEVENS POINT, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (0-3) fell to Marian University (3-3) in the home opener on Wednesday, 12-11.
At 13:06 in the first quarter,
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) found the back of the net off an assist from
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) recording the first goal of the game.
Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored the Pointers' second goal of the evening, unassisted at 11:14 to regain the lead 2-1. With 3:29 remaining in the first quarter Marian scored their fifth goal making it a 5-2 lead going into the second quarter.
Marian scored two goals early in the second quarter to make it a 7-2 game. At 6:16,
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) found the back of the net for the first time this season to bring the game to 8-3. With 3:07 remaining in the quarter, Keeping scored off an assist from Leising making it a four-goal deficit going into halftime.
To start the third quarter, Keeping scored off another assist from Leising to bring the game to 8-5. At 11:28, Leising scores off a free position shot to make it 8-6. Just 31 seconds later, Leising scored her third goal of the game, unassisted, to cut the deficit to one goal. At 9:29, Keeping scored her third goal of the game off an assist from
Ellana Stafford (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) to tie the game, 8-8. Stafford scored her first goal of the season nearly a minute later at 8:32 to make it a 9-9 game. Marian scored two at the end of the period to make it 11-9 going into the fourth quarter.
At 12:03 in the fourth quarter Van Dyke scored off an assist from
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), making it a 12-10 game. With 6:49 remaining in the game, Bahr found the back of the net off an assist from Leising to make the game, 12-11.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, completing 13 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The UWSP women's lacrosse team is back on the road on Saturday (Mar. 15) to take on Augustana College. Opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m.
