DUBUQUE, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (16-7) fell in a tough four-set battle at Loras (11-3) by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 27-29.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove),
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) and
Cael Bertrandt (Big Bend, Wis./Mukwonago) were all in double figures with 13, 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) both posted double-figures assists with 24 and 20 each.
Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) and
Nate Olson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) each had double-digit digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
Olson had three aces and a pair of kills as the Pointers battled from behind to get within 18-16. Dresen posted his third kill of the set late, but UWSP came up just short in the first set.
Olson recorded his fourth ace of the match as UWSP doubled up Loras, 12-6, in the second. Bertrandt pulled UWSP back even with a kill after Loras took the lead with a 9-1 run.
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) had a kill and a block in a 5-0 run as the Pointers took a 20-16 lead. Dresen had a block and a kill as UWSP took the second set with a late 3-0 run.
Bertrandt had three kills as the Pointers stayed close midway through the third. Dresen added three kills and Olson had a pair of kills late, but UWSP fell by a 25-21 final.
Jetzer recorded three kills as UWSP took an 11-5 lead in the fourth. He had two kills late as each team had three set points before Loras closed with a 3-0 run.
The Pointers travel to La Crosse on Saturday (Mar. 15) to take on Olivet Nazarene at 3:00 p.m. and Viterbo at 5:00 p.m.
