EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (12-13-1) fell at UW-Eau Claire (18-8-0) by a 4-0 final in game one of the WIAC Tournament semifinals (presented by Culver's).
UWEC opened the scoring at 11:01 of the first period. The lead doubled to 2-0 at 4:16 of the second period.
In the third period, the Blugolds got goals at 8:40 and 14:25, the latter on the power play to complete the scoring.
Sophomore goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) made 28 saves to keep the Pointers close until late.
Tara Rigan (Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) had three shots apiece to lead the Pointers' attack. UWEC goaltender Alexa Backmann made all 17 saves on the night.
UWSP and UWEC play game two of the semifinals on Saturday (March 1) at 7:00 p.m.
