MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (17-7, 7-6) used an early 15-2 run to blow past UW-Stout (8-16, 4-9) for an 85-57 road win on Wednesday.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) led all scorers with 26 points.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran),
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) and
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) were also in double figures with 15, 14 and 11 points, respectively. Bolden led all players with eight rebounds.
The Blue Devils made a three to open the scoring and Abdul-Wahid scored six of the next 15 points as UWSP jumped ahead, 13-5. Butler,
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) all hit threes to maintain a double-digit lead. UWSP made a total of six three-pointers and shot 62.86 percent from the field to open a 50-27 lead at the half.
Baumgartner and Bolden each hit a three early int eh second half to push the lead to 28. Abdul-Wahid made a dunk and a three in short order as the outcome was never in doubt in the second half.
The Pointers travel to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Feb. 22) for the regular season finale. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m. UWSP has secured the 4-seed in next week's WIAC Tournament and host a first-round game on Monday (Feb. 24) at 7:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
