OSHKOSH, Wis. – Sophomore
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) posted a career-high 28 points and scored the game-winning layup in the final seconds as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (16-6, 6-5) rallied for a 76-75 win at UW-Oshkosh (12-10, 3-8).
Butler scored 11 of his points in the final 1:33 of the game as UWSP overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 2:22 of the game. He hit six times from beyond the arc, the most by a Pointer since 2022.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) was also in double figures with a career-high 17 points.
Butler hit back-to-back triples as the Pointers took an early 6-3 lead.
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) buried a three and scored five-straight as the Pointers went ahead by seven, 23-16, the largest lead by either team in the half. Butler made a layup in the final minute and the team went to break tied at 30-30.
Neither team was able to create any separation until an 8-0 run by the Titans with just over six minutes remaining. The deficit reached 11 and was 10 with 2:22 left in regulation before a dunk by
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) ignited a comeback. Butler caught fire and drilled three-consecutive threes to give UWSP a 74-73 lead with 42 seconds left. After a UWO bucket, Butler made a layup with four seconds to go for the final, decisive lead.
The Pointers host UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 15) in the regular-season home finale. Tip-off and Senior Day celebrations begin at 5:00 p.m.
