DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (10-0) reached the 10-win plateau and remained undefeated with a 68-34 win over Haverford (6-4) in the Sunshine Shootout opener on Sunday.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) led all scorers with 13 points.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) was also in double figures with 12 points.
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) hauled in a game-best 11 rebounds.
Ernst and Rice combined for UWSP's first 11 points as the Pointers started 6-0 and 11-5.
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) each added a bucket as the Pointers led, 18-13, after one quarter.
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) started the second with a bucket and
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) buried a three-pointer for a 23-16 lead.
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) and
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) each nailed a three-pointer and the lead was 36-17 at the break.
Ernst started the second half with a bucket and had four points in the third quarter. Kilpatrick scored her only points of the game and heading to the fourth, UWSP led, 50-26.
Aubrey Smith (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove),
Brenna Gehri (Oshkosh, Wis./West),
Keira Maki (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) and
Brooke Bottcher (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) all got on the scoresheet with made field goals in the fourth in the runaway victory.
The Pointers face Keene State on Monday (Dec. 29) at 2:00 p.m. ET to wrap up non-conference play.
