DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-0) held Keene State (7-3) without a field goal in a 24-3 third quarter as the Pointers rolled to a 73-42 win in the Sunshine Shootout finale.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) scored a game-best 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) poured in a season-high 10 points to round out the trio of double-figure scorers.
Ernst and
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) had four points apiece as UWSP jumped out to a 10-4 lead. Vanden Berg nailed a three-pointer and Ernst finished the quarter with a layup for a 22-13 advantage after one.
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) hit from behind the arc and had five points early in the second quarter. Vanden Berg drilled a three and had five points late as the lead was 36-31 at the half.
Ernst and Rice combined for eight points to open the third.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) buried a three and had five points.
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and Rice combined for nine points as UWSP completed a lopsided 24-3 quarter for a 60-34 lead after three.
Panich opened the fourth with a three-pointer.
Jaycee Mani (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored her first collegiate field goal in the quarter as the Pointers rolled to the win.
The Pointers return to Wisconsin to begin conference play at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Jan. 3). Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
