Pointers Hold Off Late Rally by HSU to Win Opener at Leslie Robinson Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (8-1) held Hardin-Simmons (7-6) scoreless over the final 3:33 to pull out a 65-61 win at the Leslie Robinson Classic on Saturday.
 
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led all players with 22 points and tied for the game-high with eight rebounds. Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) and Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) were also in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
 
Miron drilled a three early and Butler went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe as UWSP led 9-6. Butler drained a pair of threes and Krohn added a pair of layups as the Pointers were up, 21-10, midway through the first half.
 
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) had four points and Butler buried another three as UWSP doubled up HSU, 32-16. Josh Bocher (Kewaskum, Wis./Kewaskum) and Isaiah Moore (Chicago, Ill./Evanston Township) each made a layup and the Pointers held a 38-22 advantage at the half.
 
Krohn had four points early in the second half and Butler pushed the lead back to 16 with a layup with 15:26 to go.
 
But the Pointers went cold from the floor only scoring five free throws as HSU got within 53-52 before another Butler three with 6:56 remaining. Butler and Miron made consecutive layups to tie the game at 61-61. Miron and Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) each made a pair of free throws in the final minute to give UWSP the win.
 
The Pointers will play host Trinity in the final game of the weekend on Sunday (Dec. 21) at 7:30 p.m.
