STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens point women's hockey team (2-1-0) fell to St. Catherine (3-0-0) by a 6-2 final in the home opener on Friday.
The visiting Wildcats took a 2-0 lead with goal at 8:51 and 15:57 of the first period.
Senior
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) cut the deficit in half just 46 seconds into the second period with a power-play goal.
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) recorded an assist on the goal.
SCU scored two goals in the second period to put the Pointers in a 4-1 hole heading to the third. Another Wildcats' goal at 8:40 of the third made it 5-1.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) scored her first of the season at 12:28 of the third period. Her unassisted goal made it 5-2.
A late empty-net goal by SCU completed the scoring.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) had 40 saves. SCU goaltender Lea Grassia made 33 saves in the win.
The Pointers and Wildcats wrap up the weekend series at K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 2:00 p.m.
