Pointers Advance Behind Goals from Five Different Scorers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The third-seeded UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (13-3-3) advanced with a 6-1 win over UW-Stout (1-15-4) in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) first round on Tuesday.
 
Keegan Frederick (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) put the Pointers in front in the 13th minute with his second goal of the season. Connor Urban (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Marcelo Chavez (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) had assists on the opening goal.
 
Noah Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) doubled the lead in the 22nd minute. Chavez picked up his second assist of the night and Cameron Jochimsen (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) added a helper on the eventual game-winner.
 
Urban scored his first of the night in the 27th minute to make it a 3-0 UWSP advantage. Arun Krishna (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) provided an assist.
 
The Blue Devils spoiled the shutout in the 40th minute to cut the UWSP lead to 3-1 at the break.
 
Urban pushed the lead back to three with his second of the game in the 50th minute. Carter Smith (Milton, Wis./Milton) had the assist on the play.
 
Jochimsen notched his second assist of the match in the 67th minute. Jaxon Buckley (Kingsford, Mich./Kingsford) scored the goal and Vincent Bianco (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton) also had an assist.
 
Sam McBride (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) scored his first career goal in the 86th minute to complete the scoring. Amayo Bardeguez-Barrera (Boyne City, Mich./Boyne City) had an assist on the play for his first career point.
 
UWSP goalkeeper Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made three saves in 81 minutes of play. Blayton Will (Appleton, Wis./West) had one save in just over nine minutes of action.
 
The Pointers will travel to Whitewater on Thursday (Nov. 6) to face the Warhawks at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinal round.
