Pointers Claw Back to Win Battle of Unbeatens, Title at UWSP Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (5-0) rallied in the second half to hand Millikin (5-1) a 69-63 defeat in the championship game of the UWSP Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament.
 
Tournament MVP Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) tied for the game-high with 21 points. He was 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) fueled the comeback with four-made three-pointers and 17 points in the game.
 
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Baumgartner, Krohn and all-tournament selection Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) tied for the team lead with seven boards each.
 
Baumgartner hit two of his threes early as UWSP jumped out to a 10-4 advantage. Butler hit a three and had seven points as the teams battled to a 23-23 tie with 6:27 left in the first half. Miron had the only field goal in the remainder of the half as UWSP trailed 30-27 at the break.
 
Butler buried a three to pull UWSP even at 34-34. Midway through the second half, Baumgartner completed an and-one as UWSP began to erase a nine-point deficit.
 
Combs and Baumgartner combined for three-straight makes from beyond the arc as the Pointers took a 56-55 lead. Krohn completed an and-one as the Pointers made it a 16-point swing for a seven-point lead.
 
The Pointers travel to North Park for a non-conference game on Saturday (Nov. 29) beginning at 4:00 p.m.
