NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (2-0) ended the first half with a 22-12 run en route to a 74-63 win at St. Olaf (0-2) on Wednesday.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) led a trio of Pointers in double figures with 16 points.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) added 15 and
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) poured in 14 points.
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) had a team-best seven rebounds.
Baumgartner opened the game by completing an and-one.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) scored five-straight and UWSP grabbed a brief 10-9 lead. Krohn had four points to put the Pointers in front, 18-17 with 8:32 to go in the half.
Isaiah Moore (Chicago, Ill./Evanston Township) and
Max Raimer (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) hit back-to-back three-pointers to extend the run to 8-0. Butler and Krohn combined for UWSP's final 12 points of the half and the Pointers were up, 38-29, at the break.
Combs began the second half with a layup pushing the lead to double digits. Minutes later, he nailed a three and Baumgartner buried consecutive threes with eight-straight points as the advantage was 58-43 with 9:44 to go.
Grant Manz (Kiel, Wis./Kiel) posted four-straight points for the Pointers. Baumgartner added four points late as UWSP held the Oles at bay to take the win.
The Pointers host Edgewood in the home opener on Saturday (Nov. 15). Tipoff at Quandt Fieldhouse is set for 6:00 p.m.
