STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-0) erased a 20-point first-half deficit with an 86-75 win over Edgewood (0-2) in the home opener on Saturday.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led all scorers with 26 points on the night.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) added 15 with
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and
Isaiah Moore (Chicago, Ill./Evanston Township) each scoring 11 points. Miron and Moore tied for the team lead with seven rebounds each.
Butler, Krohn and
Max Raimer (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) combined for 12 points and UWSP kept it close at 18-15 near the midpoint of the first half. The visiting Eagles put up a 16-0 run before a Krohn layup ended a five-minute drought by the Pointers.
Miron,
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Moore each hit a three-pointer as UWSP cut the deficit to 45-34 at the break.
Miron had four points early in the second half to get UWSP within 48-41.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) buried a three with 10:35 remaining to get the Pointers back even at 62-62. He buried another three a minute later to cap a 7-0 run.
Butler scored five-straight points as UWSP took a 75-68 lead. He completed an and-one and Moore added four points as the Pointers extended the lead to double digits. Krohn made a layup in the final minute to seal the win.
The Pointers host Bethany Lutheran in the UWSP Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday (Nov. 21) at 7:15 p.m.
