STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (9-2-2) earned a 2-1 win over Marian (4-6-2) on Tuesday.
In the third minute of play, the Pointers took the lead.
Noah Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) scored his third of the season with
Marcelo Chavez (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) assisting on the goal.
The visiting Sabres nearly pulled level in the 16th minute as a shot rang off the crossbar. Marian tied the match at 1-1 in the 23rd minute on an own goal.
Chavez put the Pointers in front again in the 32nd minute. His eventual game-winner was assisted on by
Connor Urban (Waukesha, Wis./West).
Jaxon Buckley (Kingsford, Mich./Kingsford) almost extended the lead in the 57th minute, but his shot hit the right post and caromed out.
Noah Grieshaber (Normal, Ill./University) recorded his first collegiate win making three saves in the match.
The Pointers are home again on Saturday (Oct. 11) with a 4:00 p.m. conference match against UW-Platteville.
