Klitzke Extends Goal Streak as Pointers Open League Play

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (5-4-4, 0-1-0) opened league play with a 4-1 loss to UW-La Crosse (11-1-0, 2-0-0).
 
The Eagles got the only tally of the first half with a go-ahead goal in the 25th minute and UWL held a 1-0 lead at the break.
 
Senior Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) extended her goal-scoring streak to six matches in the 48th minute. Her seventh goal in the last six matches tied the game at 1-1. Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) had assists on the goal.
 
UWL broke the tie just 18 seconds later. The Eagles tacked on goals in the 51st and 63rd minutes for the 4-1 final.
 
UWSP goalkeeper Ainsley Katte (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) had eight saves to keep UWSP close most of the match. It was just the fourth time this season that UWL was held to four goals or fewer.
 
The Pointers continue league play at UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Oct. 8) at 7:00 p.m.
