STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (5-4-4, 0-1-0) opened league play with a 4-1 loss to UW-La Crosse (11-1-0, 2-0-0).
The Eagles got the only tally of the first half with a go-ahead goal in the 25th minute and UWL held a 1-0 lead at the break.
Senior
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) extended her goal-scoring streak to six matches in the 48th minute. Her seventh goal in the last six matches tied the game at 1-1.
Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) had assists on the goal.
UWL broke the tie just 18 seconds later. The Eagles tacked on goals in the 51st and 63rd minutes for the 4-1 final.
UWSP goalkeeper
Ainsley Katte (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) had eight saves to keep UWSP close most of the match. It was just the fourth time this season that UWL was held to four goals or fewer.
