ASHLAND, Wis. – Freshman
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) recorded her first collegiate hat trick as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (9-11-1, 3-4-1) got a 10-1 win at Northland (0-16-0, 0-7-0) on Friday night.
The host Lumberjills got on the board first with a goal at 11:22 of the first period as UWSP trailed 1-0 after one period of play.
Just 11 seconds into the second period,
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) tied the game at 1-1.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Pohlkamp had assists, the first of five points for each on the night.
Leising put the Pointers ahead with a shorthanded goal at 4:08 of the second, the first shorty of the season for UWSP.
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) got an assist on the play.
Pohlkamp netted her first of the night at 9:10 of the second. Doyle and Leising had assists.
Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East) scored just 36 seconds later off assists from Stanius and
Skyler Arneson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley), her first career assist.
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) scored the Pointers' second shorthanded goal of the period at 18:05.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) and
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) picked up assists.
Andrle scored twice early in the third period. Her goal at 3:12 was assisted on by Leising. At 5:21 of the third, Andrle's goal was assisted on by Pohlkamp and
Kohle Fitterer (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson), her first career point.
Pohlkamp pushed the lead to 8-1 with a goal at the 8:26 mark of the third.
Delaney Giesen (Mankato, Minn./West) recorded her first career point with an assist. Andrle notched the first of her three helpers on the night.
Grace Torma (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) scored at 11:01 with Andrle and
Amanda Pouchnik (Viola, Idaho/Moscow) providing assists.
Pohlkamp completed the hat trick at 16:36 of the third. Andrle and Leising had assists on the goal.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 11 saves in the win. NC goaltenders Maddy Bliss and Zoey Soost combined for 41 saves.
UWSP and Northland wrap up the season series on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 3:00 p.m. in Ashland.
