FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Senior
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) posted her first three-point night of the season as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-6-1) won, 3-1, over St. Scholastica (1-11-0) to advance to the title game of the Fondy Pot Invitational.
The Pointers fell behind as the Saints got on the board at 1:13 of the second period to break the scoreless draw.
Leising notched her first point of the night with a game-tying goal at 8:24 of the second period.
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) and
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) got assists on the goal.
Less than five minutes later, the trio put UWSP ahead. Pohlkamp got the goal at 13:07 with Andrle and Leising assisting on the eventual game-winner.
Late in the second period,
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) registered a power-play goal to push the lead to 3-1. Leising had the lone assist on the play.
Neither team scored in the third period.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 31 saves to earn the win. CSS goaltender Kieley Curow had 25 saves.
The Pointers will face UW-Superior for the championship of the Fondy Pot Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 4:00 p.m.
