Pointers Pour it on Early, Roll to Season Sweep of UWW

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (14-5, 4-4) recorded its largest win over UW-Whitewater (9-10, 3-5) since 1999 with an 83-52 win on Wednesday night. The 31-ponit victory is the largest over UWW since Dec. 1, 1999, when UWSP won by 43.
 
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) led all scorers with 19 points. Tyshawn Teague-Johnson (Beloit, Wis./Turner) added a career-high 14 points, the first double-figure game of his career. Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) rounded out the trio in double figures with 12 points.
 
Miron buried a three on UWSP's first possession and had seven early points as the Pointers jumped in front, 9-5. Teague-Johnson and Butler hit back-to-back threes and UWSP was up 19-5 after 12-0 run.
 
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) buried consecutive threes with Miron, Butler and Teague-Johnson all hitting from beyond the arc for a 36-11 lead. Teague-Johnson threw down hit first dunk of the game and the halftime lead was 46-19.
 
Miron and Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) combined for 10 of the first 11 UWSP points of the second half. Teague-Johnson and Miron each hit another three. Abdul-Wahid and Teague-Johnson had back-to-back dunks as the lead hovered around 30.
 
Late, Ethan Hoelzel (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) flushed a dunk and James Jacobs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) hit a jumper, the duo's first points scored at home as Pointers.
 
The Pointers will enjoy a bye weekend and return to action at home on Wednesday (Feb. 5) at 7:00 p.m. against UW-River Falls.
