EAU Claire, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-11-1, 2-4-1) dropped its series finale at No. 13 UW-Eau Claire (14-6-0, 6-1-0) by a 5-2 final.
The Blugolds jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the second period. UWEC had two first-period goals at 6:14 and 18:13. To start the second, the Blugolds got a power-play goal at 2:05 and made it 4-0 at 4:32.
Late in the second period, freshman
Avery Engbrecht (Winona, Minn./Winona) scored her first goal as a Pointer. Her goal at 18:34 was assisted on by
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron).
Just 19 seconds later,
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) scored an unassisted goal as the Pointers got within 4-2 heading to the third period.
The Blugolds got the lone goal scored in the third period at the 8:52 mark to complete the scoring.
UWSP goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) made 39 saves in the game. UWEC goaltender Alexa Backmann made 21 saves.
The Pointers head to Northland for a weekend series beginning on Friday (Jan. 31) at 7:00 p.m.
