MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (13-4-1, 5-2-1) in back into a first-place tie in the WIAC after a 5-1 win in the weekend opener at UW-Stout (9-7-2, 2-5-1). The win was the 150th for head coach
Tyler Krueger at UWSP.
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) got the scoring going with an unassisted goal at 7:09 of the first period. His goal held up as the lone tally in the first period.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 13:10 of the second period.
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) and
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) got assists on the goal.
The Blue Devils got a power-play goal at 16:24 to send the game to the third with UWSP up, 2-1.
Peyton Hart (Delafield, Wis.) restored the two-goal lead with a shorthanded goal at 1:05 of the third period in his 100th career game.
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) added his first assist of the night on the play.
Chmelevski scored at the 2:52 mark of the third, his fifth-consecutive multi-point game.
Michael Eftimovski (Toronto, Ont.) and
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) had helpers on the tally.
Matthew Falls (Toronto,Ont.) finished the scoring with an empty-net shorthanded goal at 18:35 of the third period. German notched his second assist of the night on the play.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 31 saves in the win. Stout goaltender Tyler Masternak had 25 saves.
The Pointers and Blue Devils wrap up the season series on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 7:00 p.m. in Menomonie.
