Falls Records First Multi-Goal Game as Pointers Wrap Non-Conference Play

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The No. 12 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (12-4-1) closed out non-conference play with a 6-5 win at Saint John's (6-9-0) on Saturday.
 
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) put the Pointers in front with a power-play goal at 3:24 of the first period. Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) and Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) assisted on the goal.
 
Exactly three minutes later, the Johnnies tied the game at 1-1.
 
Blake Norris (Warroad, Minn.) gave UWSP a 2-1 lead at the 8:38 mark of the first period. Sciarrino notched his second assist of the night and Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) added a helper.
 
At 10:03 of the second period, Chmelevski extended the lead to 3-1. Norris and Anderson each got their second points of the night with assists.
 
After an SJU goal at 12:55, Matthew Falls (Toronto,Ont.) regained the two-goal lead at 13:24 of the second period. Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) had an assist on the play. The Johnnies got within one late and UWSP held a 4-3 advantage heading to the third.
 
Chris Engelbert (Whitby, Ont.) scored to give UWSP a 5-3 lead at 3:38 of the third period. Dean got his second helper of the night and Joshua German (Waterford, Mich.) his first assist on the play.
 
Falls scored again at 9:56 of the third, his first career multi-goal game. Bunting again had an assist on Falls' goal.
 
SJU scored twice in the final minute of regulation, both goals with an empty net and extra attacker.
 
UWSP goaltender Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) had a season-high 38 saves in the win. SJU goaltender Bailey Huber had 32 saves.
 
The Pointers head to UW-Stout for a weekend series beginning on Friday (Jan. 24) at 7:00 p.m.
