Sciarrino Scores Two Goals as Pointers Take Series Finale at UWEC

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Senior Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) scored two goals as the No. 12 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (10-4-1, 4-2-1) won the series finale, 4-1, at UW-Eau Claire (5-9-1, 4-3-0).
 
Sciarrino's two goals gives him nine goals in the last seven games. He extends his goal-scoring streak to seven games dating back to Dec. 7 when he had two goals at Northland.
 
On Tuesday, the Blugolds got on the board first with a goal at 2:01 of the first period. The host Blugolds held to 1-0 lead until late in the second period.
 
Sciarrino tied the game at 1-1 with his first of the night at 16:04 of the second period. Evan Junker (Elk River, Minn.) had an assist on the tying goal.
 
At the 9:27 mark of the third period, Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) put UWSP ahead with the eventual game-winner. Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) and Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) had assists.
 
Sciarrino extended the lead to 3-1 at 17:26 of the third period. He caused a turnover in the UWEC defensive and scored the unassisted goal.
 
Chmelevski added an empty-net goal at 19:14 of the third. Anderson and Poulias had assists on the play.
 
UWSP goaltender Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 32 saves in the win. UWEC goaltender Max Gutjahr had 26 saves.
 
The Pointers continue the road swing with a 7:00 p.m. game at Hamline on Friday (Jan. 17).
