STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-9-1, 2-2-1) fell at home to No. 2 UW-River Falls (11-2-2, 3-0-1) in league play by a 5-1 final on Saturday.
The Falcons began the scoring in the first period at the 2:40 mark. UWSP goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) held the deficit at one making 22 saves in the opening frame.
UWRF doubled its lead at 1:52 of the second period and the visitors scored two more times in the first six minutes of the period.
Junior
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) got the Pointers on the board at the 6:28 mark of the second period. It was her second career goal against UWRF on a nice wrist shot.
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) had the assist for UWSP.
The Falcons scored the final goal at 10:53 of the third period.
Beck made 41 saves in 31:38 of action.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) played the final 28:22 of the game and made 25 saves. UWRF goaltender Catt Donna made 10 saves.
The Pointers hit the road to take on UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Jan. 18). Puck drop in Eau Claire is slated for 2:00 p.m.
