STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Peyton Hart (Delafield, Wis.) set a school record as the No. 14 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (8-4-1) scored five unanswered goals in a 6-3 comeback win over St. Scholastica (8-5-1).
Hart scored two goals in the second period just 11 seconds apart, 13 seconds faster than any other player in school history. The previous record of 24 seconds was held by Kevin Fricke in 1999.
The visiting Saints got on the scoreboard first with a goal at 1:53 of the first period.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) tied the game at the 12:11 mark of the first.
Blake Norris (Warroad, Minn.) and
Chris Engelbert (Whitby, Ont.) had assists on the play.
CSS retook the lead at 15:35 of the first. The Saints pushed the UWSP deficit to two goals at 1:06 of the second period.
Facing a two-goal deficit, Hart netted his first of the night on the power-play at 11:22 of the second period.
Joseph Manning (Stillwater, Minn.) and
Hunter O'Brien (Cambridge, Ont.) had assists.
Just 11 seconds later, Hart tied the game off assists from
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) and
Gino Colangelo (Newmarket, Ont.). The goal was the 50th of Hart collegiate career.
The game remained tied until the 4:01 mark of the third period.
Alec Hamady (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) scored his second career goal, the eventual game-winner.
Matthew Falls (Toronto,Ont.) set him up with a centering pass from behind the net.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) added two empty-net goals late. His first at 18:15 was assisted on by
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.). His second came at 19:59 from
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Michale Eftimovski.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 29 saves in the win. CSS goaltender Eino Rissanen made 36 saves.
The Pointers face Augsburg on Saturday (Jan. 11) in the final regular season non-conference home game. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
