STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-2-2) got its first win of the season to remain unbeaten at home with a 2-1 victory over Carroll (1-3-1) on Sunday.
Senior
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) scored her second goal in as many days in the 11th minute of play to put UWSP in front.
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) and
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) provided assists on the goal.
In the 40th minute,
Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) took a corner kick. Her serve was deflected to the foot of
Liliana Martinez (Portland, Ore./Rex Putnam), who scored her first career goal.
The visiting Pioneers got on the board in the 67th minute to cut the UWSP lead in half. Carroll continued the pressure the remainder of regulation, but the Pointers prevailed with the win.
Erika Panella (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine) made 10 saves to earn her first career win. UWSP was outshot in the match, 34-7.
The Pointers continue the homestand on Wednesday (Sept. 11) with a 4:00 p.m. match against St. Norbert.
