STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) became the program's all-time leader in kills as she led the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (9-5) to a sweep of Augsburg (6-7) on Saturday to wrap up play at the Pointers Invitational.
Kopp was named to the all-tournament team after compiling her third double-double of the weekend with match-highs of 16 kills and 10 digs. In the third set, she recorded her 1,901st career kill surpassing April Gehl's previous program record.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players with 28 assists.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) served up a match-best four aces.
Kopp registered three early kills and Erlandson had a pair of aces as UWSP jumped ahead, 10-2. Kopp and
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had two kills each as UWSP took the opening set, 25-15.
Erlandson and Kopp each had an ace as the Pointers led, 7-4, early in the second. Thomka and Kopp had three kills each as the Pointers won set two, 25-19.
Kopp's third kill of the third set gave her the record and UWSP led, 9-6. She added three more kills and a block in a 4-0 run as the lead grew to 16-9.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) added three kills down the stretch, including the match-ender as UWSP took the third set, 25-23.
The Pointers remain at home to face UW-Stout on Wednesday (Sept. 25). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
