STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team won its second league match of the season with an 8-1 win over UW-River Falls on Friday.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 final. Jantz rolled through her No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-1. Scharf needed a first-set tie break, 7-6 (4) before closing out her No. 3 singles match with a 6-1 win in set two.
Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) and
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) took No. 2 doubles by an 8-4 score.
Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) and
Morgan Milan (Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) won at No. 3 doubles by the same 8-4 score.
Brosteau secured the match win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. Steier also needed a first-set tiebreak, 7-6 (4), at No. 4 singles before a 6-2 win in set two.
Kunze rallied back for a super-breaker win at No. 2 singles. She won the first set, 6-3, before falling by the same score in set two. She prevailed in the super-breaker with a 10-4 win.
Milan took her No. 6 singles match to a third set. She dropped the opening set, 6-2, before tying the match with a 6-4 set-two win. IN the third set, she fell just short, 7-5.
The Pointers travel to Iowa to take on Saint Ambrose on Saturday (Sept. 14) with first serve set for 12:00 p.m.
