Pointers Post Eight-Run Third in WIAC Tournament Win over UWL

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 19 UW-Stevens Point softball team (32-5) scored eight times in the third inning in a 9-3 win over UW-La Crosse (24-18) in UWSP's opener at the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) on Thursday.
 
Jesse Klicker (Spring Grove, Ill/Richmond-Burton Community), Emma Stolzman (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) and Emmie Cibrario (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) had two RBI each in the win. Klicker, Cibrario, Allie Meyers (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) and Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) had two hits each on the day. Rachel Baker (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton Community) scored twice and hit a home run.
 
The Eagles got on the board in the second with an unearned run. UWL added two more runs in the top of the third on one hits, both unearned, for a 3-0 lead.
 
The Pointers got a leadoff single by Cibrario in the bottom of the third. Klicker drew a walk and UWSP got on the board on an RBI double by Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville). After back-to-back fielder's choice putouts at home, Meyers dropped an RBI single into right. Sophia Heckendorf (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) drew a walk to load the bases. Stolzman singled to drive in two for a 4-3 lead. Otto reached on an infield single to reload the bases. Cibrario batted for the second time in the frame and hit a two-RBI single. Klicker followed with a two-RBI triple for an 8-3 advantage.
 
Baker hit a one-out home run in the fourth, a solo shot to complete the scoring.
 
Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) earned the win, her 14th of the year. She struck out two and did not allow an earned run. Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) tossed the final 3.0 frames to earn her 15th save of the season. She struck out three.
 
The Pointers will face UW-Whitewater on Friday (May 10) in the third game of the day. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Oshkosh.
