STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) became the all-time leader with his 51st career home run as the UW-Stevens Point baseball team (23-13) posted a 21-4 run-rule win over St. Norbert (15-23) in the regular season home finale.
Comer hit one of UWSP's five home runs on the day and was a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in four runs.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) hit two home runs, both three-run shots, to tie his season high with six RBI.
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and
Trent Van Ess (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) had three hits each. Tomczak hit a home run and drove in four. Van Ess was a home run shy of the cycle with four runs scored.
Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) hit a grand slam to give UWSP four players with four or more RBI on the day.
The Green Knights scratched across a run in the top of the first on a pair of hits and a sac fly. SNC held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second.
The Pointers erupted for a 10-run inning sending 16 hitters to the plate in the frame. Olson followed two hit batters with a three-run home run. Tomczak drove in two with a single. Comer hit a single to drive in another. Baumann's grand slam capped the scoring for a 10-1 lead.
Comer singled to start the third. Van Ess followed with a double to put two in scoring position. Olson blasted his second three-run home run of the game for a 13-1 lead.
SNC plated three runs on four hits in the fourth to get within 13-4.
Jakob Boos (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led off the fourth for UWSP with a single. Tomczak also hit a single. Comer then followed with his record-setting home run, a three-run shot to left. Van Ess continued the inning with a triple, the first of his career.
Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) singled to push the score to 17-4.
Tomczak hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning for a 19-4 advantage.
In the sixth, Van Ess Singled and Homolka drew a walk.
Logan VanLaanen (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) hit the first pitch he saw for an RBI single, the first of his career. UWSP tacked on an unearned run to complete the scoring.
Riley O'Connell (West Bend, Wis./West) earned the win in his first career start. He struck out six over 4.0 innings.
Kale Weisenberger (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief to earn his first career save. He struck out five.
The Pointers travel to UW-Whitewater to begin a season-ending four-game series on Friday (May 3). First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
