STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (0-7, 0-2) made up its postponed matchup with UW-River Falls (7-3, 2-0) on Monday, falling to the Falcons, 20-8.
UW-River Falls started the bout with a 7-0 run, controlling the first quarter of play until the Pointers top scorer,
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest), broke the ice with a man-up goal with 29 seconds remaining in the first.
In the second, UWSP was able to tack on two additional goals to trim the Falcons' lead to eight.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) earned a solo goal quickly followed by a goal from
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) off a dish from Van Dyke. The two goals for the Pointers in the second happened within 21 seconds of each other. UWRF took a 14-3 lead heading into the half.
Van Dyke started the scoring for the Pointers in the second half with an unassisted effort with 9:36 remaining in the third. Leising tacked on a late goal in the third off a free-position attempt to reduce the Falcons' lead, 18-5.
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) started a late scoring effort for the Pointers as she scored off a pass from Leising leading to a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Minutes later, Van Dyke scored her third goal of the bout, earning her sixth-straight hat trick of the season. Allen tacked on her second goal of the game quickly after off an assist from Van Dyke, halting the scoring at eight for UWSP as they fell, 20-8.
Van Dyke led the Pointers with five points, three goals and two assists. Leising earned three points, two goals and one assist with a team game-high four draw controls and four ground balls.
Dylan Wall (Plover, Wis./SPASH) tied her season-best in caused turnovers with three on the backline.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made the start in goal with 11 saves in one half of play.
Ally Schmidli (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) played the second half and earned a new season-best three saves.
The Pointers enter a quick turnaround during a busy week as they will hit the road to play UW-La Crosse on Wednesday (Apr. 10). Opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
