Comer Homers Twice, Ties School Record, Pointers Fall in Extras

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) recorded his third-straight multi-home run game and tied the school record with his 50th career home run on Tuesday. His home runs were two of the nine hit in the game as the UW-Stevens Point baseball team (19-10) fell in 10 innings to visiting Lawrence (22-8) by a 17-16 final.
 
Comer hit home runs in each of his first two at-bats to tie the program record. He had four RBI and scored four times in the game. He drew three walks and stole a base as well.
 
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also hit two home runs for the Pointers, driving in a career-best six on the day. Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) and Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) had two hits each.
 
The Vikings scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first without a home run, setting the table for a day filled with runs scored.
 
Adams singled to begin the bottom of the first. Two batters later, Jakob Boos (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) drew a walk. Comer stepped up and launched a 1-1 pitch out to left to give UWSP a 3-2 lead.
 
Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) hit a single to start the second inning. With one down, Olson hit his first home run of the game to push the advantage to 5-2.
 
The Vikings hit the first of their five home runs on the day to tie the game at 5-5 in the third. Comer led off the third and untied the game with a solo home run to tie the career school record.
 
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but Lawrence hit two home runs and scored four runs in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead. The Viking added three runs on four hits and an error in the sixth to make it 12-6.
 
The Pointers drew five walks and two batters were hit with pinch hitter Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) getting the only hit in the bottom of the seventh as UWSP pulled within 12-11. LU hit a two-run home run in the eighth to put the score to 14-11.
 
UWSP drew three-straight walks to start the bottom of the eighth loading the bases with no outs. Homolka hit a sac fly to get one run home. Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled) had an RBI single to plate another, his first career hit and RBI. Olson followed with his second home run of the game for a 16-14 UWSP lead.
 
The Vikings tied the game with another two-run home run in the top of the ninth. Comer drew his third walk of the game to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but the Pointers left two aboard sending the game to the 10th.
 
LU turned a leadoff walk in the 10th into the winning run. A hit batters put two aboard. Then back-to-back sacrifice bunt pushed the go-ahead run home.
 
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) struck out six in 4.1 innings in the start. Joe Schneider (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) had two strikeouts in an inning of relief. Ferry Struck out five over 2.0 innings of work.
 
The Pointers play a non-conference game at Dubuque on Thursday (April 25). First pitch has been moved to 3:00 p.m.
