DAVENPORT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (4-4) posted a season-high 12 strikeouts by four different hurlers in a 9-1 win over Western New England (6-6) on Thursday.
Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) notched his first win in a Pointers' uniform with seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings. He scattered six hits and gave up just one run.
Joe Schneider (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) struck out the side in an inning of work.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) and
Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, WIs./Muskego) added a strikeout apiece in an inning of work each.
Offensively,
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) had two hits, including UWSP's only home run of the day. He drove in three.
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) posted another three-hit game and scored two runs.
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) had two RBI and
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) drove in two as well.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) had two hits and scored a run.
Trent Van Ess (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) singled to start the second inning. Oliver and Soule followed with singles driving in the first run of the game. Olson ripped a two-run single to left-center extending the lead to 3-0. Adams singled and
Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) drew a walk to load the bases. Comer then hit a sac fly making it 4-0.
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) drew a leadoff walk in the fifth. With two down, Soule blasted a two-run home run to left for a 6-0 advantage.
The Golden Bears broke up Schultz's shutout bid with a run in the sixth on two hits.
Adams began the sixth with a single to center. He moved to second on the wild pitch and scored on a double by Baumann.
In the eighth, Adams again led off, this time lacing a double to right-center.
Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) hit a single to drive him home. Homolka moved to third on a groundout and a wild pitch. He scored on a groundout by Comer to complete the scoring.
The Pointers face William Paterson on Friday (March 22). First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. ET.
