WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (11-11, 5-6) fell at UW-Whitewater (17-5, 7-4) by an 81-55 final on Wednesday night.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) led the Pointers with 13 points.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) was the only other double-figure scorer with 11, all in the first half. Baumgartner also led the Pointers with four rebounds.
Krohn made a layup in the opening minute for a 2-0 UWSP lead.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) scored the next four UWSP points, but UWW pushed the deficit to 16-6 before Baumgartner hit back-to-back threes.
Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) buried a three and UWSP was back within one at 16-15. Krohn scored four straight and a layup by
Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) gave the Pointers a 21-20 lead.
Baumgartner drilled another three to end a 7-0 UWW run. He and Krohn each added a layup, but the Warhawks led, 38-28 at the half.
UWSP went scoreless from the field for more than six minutes to open the second half while the Warhawks posted a 19-4 run to push the lead out of reach.
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) hit a three for UWSP's only field goal until Josiah Gille hit a jumper with 9:33 left with the Pointers down 33.
AJ Uttech (Columbus, Wis./Columbus) had three points and
Ryan Peterson (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) hit from behind the arc. Gillie added four more points and
Jacksen Smith (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) got on the scoresheet with a layup.
The Pointers host UW-Platteville on Saturday (Feb. 10) at 5:00 p.m. A special halftime presentation is planned as UWSP will hold a reunion for the 2004 National Championship team.
