STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-14-2) scored four goals in the home finale, but settled for a 4-4 tie with visiting Concordia (Wis.) (11-11-3). The tie is the second between the squads this season and the Pointers are now 16-1-5 all-time versus CUW.
Senior
Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) got the scoring started at 11:29 of the first period.
Grace Torma (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) picked up assists on the play.
The Pointers doubled the lead at 18:02 of the first as fellow
Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) netted her second of the season.
Tara Rigan (Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community) had a helper on the goal.
The Falcons got on the board just 35 seconds into the second period to cut UWSP's lead in half, 2-1.
Late in the second,
Shelby Tryba (Plover, Wis.) scored her first of the season. Her unassisted goal at 14:28 pushed the lead to 3-1.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) gave the Pointers a 4-1 lead at the 16:12 mark of the second. Rigan added her second assist of the night on the play.
CUW got a goal at 18:45 of the second to make it 4-2. The Falcons scored the only goals of the third period taking advantage of a 5-on-3 just 23 seconds into the stanza. CUW tied the game at 4:55 of the third and neither team could find a game-winner the rest of the third or in overtime.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 21 saves. CUW goaltender Kami McCardle had 45 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior for a weekend series to wrap up the regular season. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 9) and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 10).
