STEVENS POINT, Wis. – It seemed like UW-La Crosse (12-9, 6-4) couldn't miss from behind the arc, going 9-for-10, in the first half as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (11-10, 5-5) fell by a 79-61 final.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) led the Pointers with 12 points.
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) was the only other UWSP player in double figures with 10.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had a team-best six rebounds.
Krohn gave UWSP its only lead with a layup in the opening minute. The Eagles started their three-point barrage and quickly put UWSP in an 11-5 hole. Bolden and Abdul-Wahid each made a bucket to get UWSP within two.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Abdul-Wahid hit baskets on consecutive possessions to get the Pointers within 22-15 midway through the first half.
Josiah Gillie (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis) had UWSP's lone make in a 12-2 UWL run.
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) added four and
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) had five late, but the Pointers trailed 46-30 at the break.
Miron opened the scoring in the second half. Abdul-Wahid buried a three with 9:23 to go. Bolden drilled a pair of threes and
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had five points late.
The Pointers travel to UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Feb. 7) for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
