RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Freshman goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 70 saves for the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-16-2) in a 7-0 loss to No. 1 UW-River Falls (26-0-0) in the WIAC Tournament semifinals game one (presented by Culver's).
Griege's 70 saves are the most by a single goaltender in WIAC history. Northland's Soliel Archambeault and Corrin Hanson combined for 76 saves in a game versus UWRF on Jan. 28, 2022.
Griege racked up 27 saves in the first period as she was able to hold the Falcons to just a single goal as UWSP trailed 1-0 after one.
The Falcons scored three times in the second and three more in the third. Griege made 21 saves in the second and 22 more in the third to total 70 for the game.
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) led the Pointers with three shots on goal. UWRF goaltender Jordan O'Connor made 10 saves in the shutout win.
The Pointers and Falcons wrap up the semifinal round on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 2:05 p.m.
