Women’s Hockey Scores Twice in the First Period to Advance to WIAC Semis

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – All of the scoring was in the first period and the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-16-2) earned a 2-1 win over Northland (5-20-1) to advance to the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinals.
 
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) got the Pointers on the board at 8:49 of the first period. She tapped in the puck at the back post following a shot by Josie Bender (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), who picked up the assist.
 
The Lumberjills tied the game at 16:47 of the first as a shot from the point trickled past UWSP goaltender Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy).
 
At 18:09 of the first, Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) took a feed in the neutral zone from Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine). Granovsky found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.
 
Greige made five saves in the second period and nine more in the third to secure the win. She totaled 25 saves on the day.
 
Northland goaltender Corrin Hanson made 39 saves, including 12 in the second and 14 in the third.
 
The Pointers advance to the semifinal round to take on top-seed and No. 1 UW-River Falls. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7:05 p.m. and on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. in River Falls.
