EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (15-9, 4-9) completed the season sweep of UW-Eau Claire (10-14, 4-9) with a 60-52 win on Wednesday night. It was the Pointers' first sweep of the Blugolds since 2014-15.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) had 13 points each to lead the Pointers.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) was also in double figures with 10. Pfeifer led UWSP with eight rebounds.
Thomson buried a three 66 seconds into the game and UWSP had the lead at 5-3.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added three points and three-pointers by Pfeifer and Krueger increased the lead to 14-5. Pfeifer and Thomson each hit from behind the arc in the final minute as UWSP was up, 20-15, after one.
Pfeifer hit another three to begin the second quarter.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) completed an and-one and
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) added a layup.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) hit a late jumper and the Pointers were in front, 32-28, at halftime.
Nies made a layup to end a 7-0 run by the Blugolds to begin the third quarter. Campion hit a jumper and
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) completed an and-one as the Pointers put up a 7-0 burst. Gawlitta hit three free throws late and the lead was 42-37 heading to the final quarter.
Thomson and Krueger each drained a three early in the fourth. Thomson nailed another three late as UWSP held on for the road win.
The Pointers host UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Feb. 17) for Senior Day. Tip-off in Berg Gym is slated for 3:00 p.m.
