Women’s Basketball Falls to UWO in Season Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (15-10, 4-10) saw its season come to an end with a 65-50 loss to No. 15 UW-Oshkosh (21-4, 12-2).
 
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) led the Pointers with 10 points each. Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) added nine points and led the Pointers with six rebounds.
 
Emma Van Order (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) made a layup to get UWSP on the board early. Pfeifer buried a three ending a 13-2 start by UWO. Pfeifer hit another three and Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) nailed a jumper, but the Pointers trailed, 18-12 after one.
 
Slowik drilled a three to begin the second as UWSP got within a possession at 18-15. Krueger, Pfeifer and Nies each made a layup as the halftime deficit was 37-21.
 
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and Krueger had four points each as the Pointers started the third with an 8-0 run. The Titans scored the final eight points of the period and UWSP trailed 45-29 after three.
 
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) opened the scoring in the fourth quarter. Krueger, Nies and Pfeifer each made a layup as UWSP cut the deficit to nine, 48-39.  Nies made two more layups with the completion of an and-one on the second as the Pointers closed to within 51-46 with 3:25 remaining. UWO closed out the game with a 14-4 run.
 
The Pointers finish the season with a 15-10 record, the most wins since the 2016-17 season. UWSP began with an 11-0 non-conference record and reached a No. 25 ranking in the D3hoops.com poll in early January.
