Pointers Rally Twice, Close Regular Season with Weekend Sweep of Superior

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (19-5-2, 13-2-0) closed the regular season with a 4-2 win over UW-Superior (11-13-1, 6-8-1) to finish off a weekend sweep.

The Yellowjackets took the lead at 9:28 of the first period to break a scoreless tie.
 
Senior Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) tied the game at 13:13 of the first, his second goal of the season. Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) and Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) had assists.
 
Late in the first, the Yellowjackets again took the lead taking a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
 
Witherspoon tied the game again with a power-play goal at 9:31 of the second, the only goal of the period. Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) and Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) added assists.
 
Senior Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) gave the Pointers the lead at 4:45 of the third period. His eventual game-winner was assisted by fellow seniors David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) and Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.).
 
German pushed the UWSP lead to 4-2 at the 12:30 mark of the third. Witherspoon added an assist for his third point of the night.
 
UWSP goaltender Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made a season-high 43 saves in the win. Kobe Grant had 29 saves for Superior.
 
The Pointers enter the WIAC Tournament as the top seed and host the semifinal round on Feb. 23 and 24. UWSP will await the winner of the first-round matchup between UW-River Falls and UW-Superior. Ticket information will be announced on Tuesday (Feb. 13).
